It will be
a great conference which every Kytherian should be encouraged to attend.
Lafcadio
Hearn is a very significant literary figure of the late 19th century and we
Kytherians have claimed him as our own because he was conceived on the island
and his mother was Kytherian (Rosa Kasimatis)!
He is still revered on Kythera as he is in Lefkada America and Japan
(where he made his mark).
For those
who were in Kythera in 2008 for Kytheraismos it will be recalled that a
Japanese scholar presented a paper in honour of Lafcadio Hearn!

The details which follow about the Conference
for Lefkadio Hearn were sent by our good friend, and
member of Local committee of Kytheraismos in Sydney Mr.George Poulos, who, for
the time being is here in Greece. As to the point that a Japanish professor had participated to the 3rd Kytheraismos
Symposium in Kythera about Lefkadio, is true, he was the Professor of The University of KEIO (JAPAN), his name
is SOICHIRO NEGISHI, and he talked about
him in fluent Greek. Unfotrunately, since the last tremendous tsunami, we have
no news from him!!!
