A fire
broke out in the region of Agia Elesa on the island of Kythera and is burning
hollies and shrubs.
The fire
expanded quickly because of the winds, and the three Canadair jets which were
called to help extinguish the fire didn’t manage to collect water because of
the waves.
Sixteen
firemen with eight vehicles and 20 people are now at the point, while a Super
Puma, transferred 12 people from Athens to help extinguish the fire.
Meanwhile,
earlier, the tourist boat, Glass Boat,
removed more than 30 bathers from the beach of Melidoni, where the atmosphere
had become suffocating due to the dense smoke which covered the entire region.
