A Darwin-based National Critical Care and
Trauma Response Centre headed by Dr Len Notaras will provide much needed relief
team to the Philippines
Within hours, Australia will send a team of
medical and emergency workers trained in disaster relief, together with a portable
hospital and 20 tonnes of medical equipment and supplies, in order to help the
Philippines, devastated by the typhoon
The team will be made up by 36 experts - who
are part of the Darwin-based National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre
headed by Dr Len Notaras.

The coordinator of the team is Newcastle born
and Darwin based Dr Len Notaras, who, speaking on Radio National on the ABC
this morning said that the team is expected to treat approximately 3.500
injured people within the first two weeks.
The team includes doctors, nurses,
environmental scientists and other experts.
The Federal Government of Australia has already
approved a $10 million dollar humanitarian assistance package to the
Philippines.
It is feared that more than 10.000 people have
lost their lives as a result of typhoon Haiyan.
In 2002, Dr Notaras co-ordinated the response
to the first Bali bombings.
